Well, that was certainly interesting!

Averaged 14mph on the bike (see attachment for hill profile). I was reasonably chuffed with that as I'm using a mountain bike with road bike tyres. I know that I could have pushed a little harder in places, but I still gave it some effort - it was flipping warm - 27 degrees when I left. The cycling, including stopping for traffic at a couple of junctions etc took around 50 minutes, I think with training, on a flatter course (like the tri is on) and with the possibility of using a dedicated road bike, I can get this time down by 5+ minutes.

Got back, jumped off the bike, drank about 300ml of water then headed straight out on the road for the 5k run.

Er - how weird is that! My mind was telling me that my legs were going quickly, but they weren't! It was the weirdest thing ever! It took about a mile, maybe a little longer to get into the swing of things. I did the first mile of the run in 11.5 minutes. If I set off and do this run without cycling beforehand, I'm at 9.30 - 9.50 by the mile point. The 5k took 35 minutes to run, which wasn't quick by any means, but I was hanging on at the end of the run and I was feeling weird at the beginning of the run.

Still - with enough practice, I should be able to get used to it.

I'm going to do another transition training session on Sunday afternoon/evening.

EDIT - I'll add the attachment now!

I'll be keeping an eye on this as I'm thinking of trying a triathalon. Good luck

A real shame - I don't think I'm going to be able to do this.

My plan was for an instructors course at TKD on Saturday, leaving me fresh for the triathlon on Sunday.

Basically, at rugby, I am the 1st choice hooker for the 1st XV. The 2nd choice hooker was going to deputise for me on the Saturday as we've got a fairly important cup game. So we'd be fine.

But, the 2nd choice hooker has had an emergency hernia operation, leaving us without a specialist hooker for one of the most important games of the season.

So, it looks like my TKD instructors course is on hold as I'd rather the rugby club had a specialist hooker for the cup game, than me doing a swim/bike/run. If I get injured, playing rugby, then I'll have wasted £32 - which will pay for some of my diagnostic on my car that's having a paddy at the minute.

Good luck to the other triathletes on the day though.

I'll be on the lookout for another sprint triathlon that has the swim in a pool.
