grand union canal race 07

hi all,

just to let y'all know i'm runnign the grand union canal race again this year.. THIS WEEKEND!
it's 145miles down the canal (towpath) from birmingham to london.

it's not the greatest spectator sport in the world i confess as runners get spread out very quickly but if anyone lives near the canal i'm sure all of us would appreciate any support you can give.

full route details at www.gucr.co.uk

let me know if you want my approximate timings for anywhere inparticular.

thanks both.

it's a continuous event so the rule is no more than 40mins off course at a time.
the cut off time is 19hrs at 70miles and 45hrs overall.

last year was 44hrs28mins (inc. a full 40mins stop with 30mins sleep on sunday morning)
hoping for sub 40 this time although the plan says 36.

Hey, that's some PB! You'll be proud of that. Very well done indeed. Where can we see the results?
Cheers!

Well, that's one of your targets achieved for 2007 Ed (see Steve's 'General' question posted 19.12.06) - your aim was to get under 40 hours in the GUCR, and you did.
Other forumites had ambitious plans for 2007 too. So, I know it's only June but how are things going so far? Any goals/PB's achieved yet?
Cheers!

every race so far this year a PB which meant either it was a good sign for GUCR or I was about to crash and burn.
  • Draycote 35, PB by 15mins
  • Crawley 12hr, PB by 9miles
  • Stratford Marathon, PB by errrr 10minutes?
  • Stratford Triathlon, PB by 5mins
  • GUCR.... PB by 7hours14mins

My PB days are over. My target is to get as high in the British Rankings as possible, in my age category, at whatever distance I run. I'm currently heading the 10K rankings - but there's seven months to go yet! I particularly want the 800m title but haven't raced on the track so far this year. May go for the big meeting in Birmingham in July. Watch this space!
Cheers!

PS. I think you said something about the 'Ironman' and a sub 3.30 marathon
