Actually, the Richard & Judy syndrome is why I haven't joined a book club! (although I must admit to really enjoying The Book Thief, which I think may have had one of their annoying stickers on before I ripped it off!)
I'm re-reading Catch-22 atm. Forgot just how damn funny it is

I've not read a 'story book' (I guess grown-ups called it 'fiction') since I was forced to at school. TV helps me ingest fiction easily enough and any time I spend with books is all about learning stuff

I can't sleep unless I read for at least 30-60 minutes. Watching tv or being on teh computer just before going to bed is a guaranteed route to insomnia! Similarly with "Learning" books RS. Your mind needs to relax before sleep

I am actually reading the instruction manual. How sad am I? Anyway, I notice that it allows you to set it for running or biking. I'm curious. Why would you need to change the settings for different activities. I mean I thought the idea is it maps your distance, route, pace and time; so why would it need to be told whether you are walking, running, biking or driving in a car?

Autobiography's of great athletes do that for me if I feel the need... Kelly Holmes, Paula Radcliffe, Lance Armstrong's "Every second counts" and "the Perfect Distance" about Seb Coe & Steve Ovett They're not really 'learning' books, but they are about stuff that's actually happened

Sorry for hijacking JBB
I always wondered the same about switching between sports. I think the 405 can be attached to a cadence monitor for cycling to measure your pedal rotation, but don't know why you need it if not.

I think M.F. is right.
You can get a cadence counter for the 305 too.

I guess the main difference will be the preset displays? Like biking I'd imagine you might operate based on speed rather than pace? (mph vs min/mi) could the 'pace smoothing' be altered to a different setting on the bike? i.e. when you're running, if you suddenly start sprintining from a standing start, it'll take a short while for the pace read-out to 'catch up' and accurately show your pace - as though it works on a moving average basis
Allllllllllllllllllso... I would imagine it calculates how many calories you've burned differently, speed and HR zones will also be different

Yup different sports can have different default displays and the zones are different.

My Garmin has 2 hours left to charge. The dilemma is, do I go for a short run to test it out? I have a little bit of a cold and really don't feel up to running, but I really want to use my new toy Should I run. It's really warm too, so if I do run I'll probably feel like crap afterwards.

Which will bug you more... lying in bed tonight having still not used your garmin, or lying in bed with a bit more of a sniffle? It's the inner voice of sensibility (if that''s a word, lol) Versus the mighty inner geek!
...Who will win? YOU decide... (said in Big brother type voice)

I wonder who'll be the first female to reply... and what her response will be?
