hi all

i am new here and have a question regarding a recent confusing injury, on monday i did a five mile run without stopping, this was the usual 5 mile run my training buddy and i do without any relative trouble this is the first time we've done it without stopping but we werent pushing particularly hard at all paced ourselfs the whole way. on tuesday about midday almost 24 hours after the run i started to have this agonising pain in my right outer foot, really painful when i apply pressure, have had to start using a crutch for the time being as this is the only way i can walk comfortably, do you think this is directly related to the run i did 24 hours previous? as when i finished the run i didnt have any niggles in my foot or legs so it has confused me slightly. i am waiting for a slot to see the doc. it is really quite annoying me as i have just embarked on my FLM training reigime.

thanks

Hi Lawrence... it could well be related to the run you did - though if you've covered the distance before it seems strange that this would be the first time it's caused you any grief.

Is the pain a sharp shooting pain? or more of an ache? the body can often be delayed in showing pains from running - a common one in DOMs, (delayed onset muscle soreness) which can often happen after races, where the runner will finish a race and feel fantastic for the rest of the day, then wake up the next day struggling to walk because the legs are aching so much.

Hopefully you're GP will be able to shed some light on exactly what the problem is, though brace yourself for the dreaded 4 letter word... rest.

How are your trainers by the way? Were they recommended by a specialist who's had a look at your running style? Could they be about due for renewal?
