out last week running, was raining hard and i slipped on a wooden bridge

put my left hand down instinctively and took all my weight on it


since then back is really painful

have carried on running and playing football hoping it will sort itself, it hasnt

any suggestions?

The back can be a nightmare to put right if it becomes injured... big strong muscles mean that if it goes, it can go in a big way and leave you with niggles for a fair while.

My first suggestion would simply be to try resting it for a bit, wait until the pain subsides then slowly introduce yourself back into your training, possibly with some strength building exercises. With all the twisting, turning and excessive movements in football, it doesn't come as much surprise to me that you're body's struggling to fight the back pain :(

You could try using some ice on it. Using ice to help an injury
Also start a few gentle mobilizing exercises for instance:
Lie on your back, bend your knees and place you feet flat on to the floor, roll your knees together slowly left then right.
lying on your back with your knees bent up and feet flat on the floor as above, tilt your pelvis so that you flatten your back onto the floor and then arch your back away from the floor.
