The world's biggest half marathon, the Bupa Great North Run, celebrates its 28th anniversary in 2008 and is a point-to-point course that starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields. The route takes you through the heart of Newcastle and there is a fantastic atmosphere as the roads are lined with cheering supporters to encourage you onto the finish.
