Only been running since Christmas. Ive built up slow and can run regular 5k and 10k. I have a low cadence though 155ish. My feet hit ground pretty hard as well. I decided to changed my arm position recently pulling elbows back more and not letting my arms travel as far forwards, this seems to have reduced overstep and now my cadence has gone upto 163 also. Running felt smoother, trainers don’t sound like they are slapping the floor & lower heart rate according to my watch. Brilliant result... However since I’ve done a few more runs using this new technique (no more frequent running than normal) now I’ve started to develop shin splints. I never had them before ever. Do I presume this is due the change in running technique, ease right off and build back up so my muscles get used to my new style or should I ditch my new style recover and continue in my old ways? Any advice Or thoughts to a newbie would be appreciated 👍
