Hi Ya

I know you get loads of these emails saying hello there i am new.

I have been lurking as a guest for a while, plucking up courage to actually join.

So hi

I am not a born and bred norfolk lass i am born and bred Londoner, but moved to norfolk for some fresh air.

I am a mum of two, one aged 9 and the other 2.5 (i am 32)

I have loads over 4 stone in weight since 2000 (i was overweight before pregnant stage)

I am very proud of losing that weight but it only took about a year to loose, and now i have to tone up of course.

I have been going gym since January (in my lunch hour) last year to improve my fitness and health, before i felt so lethargic etc..

bear with me here... i do running on treadmill, rower, x trainer etc, and some weights, but i have always had admiration for runners and think i would love to do that.

I have read treadmill has not got the same affects as running outside, last year i done the race for life and nearly died (did it in 43 mins) walked and jogged.

This year i did it again and this time i did not stop and i did it in under 30 mins. (did alone)

My goal for next year is to do a 10k

i have been doing power walking on the treadmill on the highest incline too to build up the power in my legs.

I have now decided to go running every other day in my lunch hour.

Yesterday i did 5k in 30 mins the the route is a very long hill and a really steep one.

I did not go mad just did as i read, relaxed and talked to myself to help my breathing etc..

I think i am fairly fit (not brill) but i do go gym everyday and i do a good workout, i dont sit about.

I am thinking of doing the brands hatch 10k and i hope could finish it. (doing it alone, as none of my friends or family are interested)

I have a pair of trainers i wear at the gym that are nike shoxs i know they are not that good for running, do you think i should see how i go, or shall i get a good pair now.

And shall i aim to do 5k every other day or push for more, i can do 5k comforably at this stage and not pushing myself too much. i think on flat i could do even better (but i think no runs are completely flat, unlike in holland (where hubby is from, he said he could run for 15 miles, i said thats cause you got no hills ;) )

BUT i have huge admiration for you lot, hopefully i can be as good one day. :d

I have a little ache today my thighs slightly and when i cough (got cold) i feel my stomach muscles slightly

Welcome!

You seem to have done very well so far ...keep it up!

Treadmills are fine as long as you don't spend your entire time on them.....much better to be out in the fresh air..and rain!

You should vary your running...do some slow longer runs and some faster shorter sessions to build up stamina and speed.

I would suggest you get a pair of shoes to match your running style....go to a proper runners' shop.

Join a running club...there are plenty around. As you can see I'm in Lowestoft...if you are not too far from me we'd be pleased to have you join!!

All the best.

Not far away from us at all then!

We have about 50 members and I'm the Chairman. Ages range from just 18 to 66 with all sorts of abilities.

We meet twice a week...Tuesdays at 6:30 for our standard run...4.85m.. (when we run at our own pace so do split up)....and Thursdays at 6:30 again for speed or hill sessions ( when we keep together...hard work but a bit more social). On Tuesdays we can have 20+ runners out....Thursdays we have up 10+ run.

We will be organising longer club runs on Sundays soon....subject to race committments. You don't have to race though if you don't want to.

You are more than welcome to come along.

Nearest decent running shops are in Norwich...The Runner's Centre in Nelson Rd, I think, is good.

Welcome,

It sounds to me as well that you are making good progress as well. definately echo Steve's comments about getting corfrect running shoes from a specialist shop.

Why not aim for a 10K like you say, does not sound as though you are too far off it anyway.

Good luck

G.

Well Steve

I would love to, what day would you suggest be best for me.

Bearing in mind, I work in Norwich

Leave work at 7 and get home about 6ish.

Got two children who are demanding and a puppy

I have to try and fit everything in

Thats why i go gym/running in my lunchtime

BUT i would love to join a club, just getting the guts to do it.

Think i see you lot running towards the Tescos at lowestoft if i am correct

Great!
Come both days!!!

As I say on a Tues we split up but a new member will always have someone to run with....we're not all greyhounds....so as to get to know the route.....and yes we do charge down towards Tescos1

On Thursdays we stay as a group so nobody gets left on their own....and although I say what the session involves you can do as many reps as you want...unless it's a relay!

We meet at the entrance of the sports centre car park on Water Lane in Lowestoft at 6:25ish both nights and aim to get going at 6:30 though it's normally 5 mins or so later.

Go on...be brave...we won't bite.....well not too hard anyway!

By the way the web addresses for 2 shops in Norwich are:-
www.sportlink.co.uk Tel 01603 868606

www.runnerscentre.co.uk Tel 01603 665398

No probs.

Both nights tend to finish between 7:30 and 7:45...On Tuesdays because most, if not all of us, wait for the slower guys to finish and then natter and on Thursdays because the session is stop/start so time passes in between the sprints/hills ( due to chatter again!) and then at the end we seem to have even more to natter about!

Just to reassure you... the speed and hills sessions are not just attended by the quicker guys...my wife (SWMBO, for future reference) often comes along as do 2/3 other ladies...though one never knows for sure who'll turn up.

Come along tonight if you can..it's lovely out there today...unlike Tuesday when we got a tad wet!

You won't faint or vomit I'm sure...I'm not an evil taskmaster, despite what the rest of them say!!

Yes just come along.

If you like us and are not put off you can grab a membership form from the sports centre...we have a noticeboard just past reception with various details on it including our monthly newsletter.

Not Bannatynes ...if you go there you may have a long wait! Can you do road/place search on google for Water Lane Lowestoft?

Look forward to meeting you on Tuesday...I'll probably run down the sports centre so there may be others there before me.....I'll be the one with SWMBO who can't be missed...all that raging GINGER hair you see!

Welcome to the forum Leece, sounds like you have yourself a running club to go to aswell now :d

You really have achieved alot in a short amount of time great work and keep it up, I am doing the Brands Hatch 1/2 again next year so may see you there.

Keep us posted on how you get on. Steve will get you on the right tracks for doing a 10k no problems, you already have the dedication to get out and run so a slight increase to your running regime won't make a to bigger difference to you.

Good Luck

TT

That's very true.
Just look for the dodgy looking characters in the corner of the car park....that'll be us!

Bloomin' hard work last night.....made more difficult as we came across our rivals running towards us....meaning we had to sprint harder and look good!!

HA HA dont you just love that when you have to act in a certain way because of other people.

I go skiing once a year and the amounts of times i have tried to pose in front of people and ended up losing it :d

I once fell over in a petrol garage, ended up flat on my face cause of spilt diesel, but i got up laughed and made out i never hurt myself. sooooo embarrassed of course i hurt and scraped all my hands and legs, nearly cried when i got in car of course.

Anyone else every embarrassed themself that bad

Sprint whats that

Hi there you seem to be getting on really well, so keep going. Its hard i know sometimes juggling a family, i also have two 7 and 3 years old, to try and get out running at least 4 times a week can be difficult. Also like your self i moved 2 years ago from just outside London up to Brightlingsea north of Colchester. Iv made friends but no real buddies, so spend time back down there whenever the chance.Wanted to say good luck especially if your going to be running with Steve's lot!!!!!;) keep us informed hayley
