Why am I getting horrendous cramps all the time a few hours after I run? Since Saturday I've done 3m, 13m, 4m and 5m last. It started last night on the sofa every time I bent by legs upwards and when I went to bed last night the pains were terrible all night, just really sharp shooting pains and stiffening all up my legs. Even my hands are cramping up and locking occasionally too. It actually woke me up several times as I writhed about in agony
It has been happening for the last few weeks and must be something to do with the increased mileage on a weekend as I'm preparing for a half in a few weeks time. I'm starting to wonder if I'm not doing something right in terms of refuelling my body between runs and I've been feeling like a zombie with no energy every time I run and think there may be a link somewhere. I read that salt has something to do with it but I always put plenty of salt on my food. Is there something else that's causing this? I know those sport drinks have electrolyte replacement in them - is it more than just salt that I should be topping-up?
