Hello all,
So happy so see a wee cycle thread on this forum. I'm not new to the forum I was running a few years ago and enjoyed reading and chatting on here, then had to give up the running due to knee injury. That's when I started cycling. I am such bike junkie, I would live on my bike if I could.

Anyway now the dark nights have arrived I'm feeling fit I thought I'd start running again. So trainers are on and I'm following the C25K programme to ease myself in slowly. OMG it's a whole new set of muscles. I'm finding the lungs and heart are fine it is the heavy legs that's the problem. I hope I'll get over this as the programme moves on.

Anyway glad there are people talking Bikes too.:d

Thanks.

Started off on a MTB then after learning a little about bikes and tyres I changed the tyres from chunky to semi tread. After a while I bought a Giant Hybrid :)love:) with hydaulic discs and 27 gears. Done miles on that bike, now I'm looking at a road bike, well drooling over them at the moment cause I can't decide on which one. I'm going to wait until spring and see what's on offer at the time.

Meantime it's running the C25K and the indoor bike.

Are you cycling? what do you have?

Still drooling over road bikes.

Im the opposite - literally JUST started cycling after a few years of running. Cycling is HARD! I thought I would find it easy from all the running I do, but you're right its a different ball game

Im a complete newbie to cycling (as in started 2 weeks ago and just manage to cycle to and form work each day) but I'm sticking at it! Much better than getting the bus :D

Roland, why are you doing this to me, droooooooling again.

Littlekimmi, keep at it. The first few weeks are the hardest, once your body gets used to it you will be going anywhere. I live in a very hilly area and it took me ages to just cyce 4 miles and back but after a while my regular route grew to 10 miles of hills. A few weeks ago I cycled from Glasgow to Balloch (loch lomond) and loved every minute of it. 54 miles of sheer heavenly bliss.

Now as to this running thingy, it's killing me and I'm only on week 2 !!

While we are on the subject of bike porn, here is a picture of my cheap and cheerful second-hand Giant Defy 4. This was taken this morning after I'd just given him a wash after a nice ride on wet roads in the freezing cold. Brrrr.

Nice bike Claire, My bike was very cheap, but it does the job until I can afford something better.. 20131028_130936.jpg

So after 3 weeks of cycling to and from work on the Boris bikes, and all the while saying "I would never buy a bike" I've spent the last 2 days looking for bikes, locks and lights online. Damn cycling being so enjoyable!!

Any tips on what to look out for on second hand (can't afford a full price one!) bikes to make sure you are getting a good deal?

Such a nice bike, I like Giant.

I'm not that up on 2nd hand bikes. I would say for a starter bike, make sure it is light, alloy, no point in getting a second hand bike and it is made of steel and too heavy. Makes such as Scott, Specialised and Giant are good.

The above are Decent entry level bikes if in good condition and can generally be found for good prices, a lot of people buy them as first bikes because they aren't mega expensive brand new but a lot if these people don't stick with cycling so some really good deals to be had.

Or have a look at B'twin bikes from Decathlon you might be able to stretch to a brand new one of them, road bike wise the Triban 3 is very popular, the Triban 5 looks better if you can stretch to that.
