I wondered whether any forumites are considering doing this in 2018? Does anyone have experience of this? Looks like it could be cold, wet and windy. The route looks to be on sandy beaches and dunes. Could be fun!

My OH is expecting to be in Alkmaar that month so we might register and visit, since it sounds a bit of a change from the regular. (A contrasting option is the Polar Night half-marathon in Tromsø, Norway, which we've already done.) Thanks for the comments, Sam.

I think it could be a fun race depending on the weather - the wind off the north sea really batters that part of the coast line and depending on the direction it could make that first 7 km quite tough!

I have some good friends in Alkmaar, so might use it as an opportunity to go visit them at the same time.

(does your OH work in the oil / gas industry?)

Its a half marathon on the coast near amsterdam, but not the amsterdam maraton. about 1/3rd of the course is on the beach, the rest a mix of dunes and roads.
Sounds nice , I was born in leiden Holland but now live in Manitoba Canada .
