Hi,
I have just completed my fist half marathon - 1Hr 58Min. So what do I do now? I would like to keep up the training, and maybe enter another race. I would like to increase my speed. Could anybody recommend a training programme please ?

I am 37 male with a resting heart rate of approximately 50, max heart rate of 199 . During the half marathon my average HR was 172 and my max was 184 (was was trying to maintain 170 during the first 8 miles then 174 after that.

My training usually consists of:

Tue: 60 Mins Heart rate monitor run betrween 70 - 80% of working heart rate.
Thurs: Intervals 6 or 7 intervals of 3 mins hard with 3 mins recovery Max HR 194. Ave HR 174
Sat: 90 Mins+ long heart rate monitor run betrween 70 - 80% of working heart rate.

Many thanks for being out there:)

Well done in completeing your first half.

I'd suggest joining a running club to help with your training, enthusiasm and motivation.

If you can put an extra run in each week it would be an advantage too.

I concur :)

Joining a club will not only improve motivation, but you'll find you're running for extended periods at an elevated speed without really noticing it!

Getting more miles in will always help your running - though of course be mindful not to increase mileage too quickly!
