I have run many marathons, but have had a year or two off. I'd like to get back to that level of fitness, but am having trouble getting beyond 5km. I do 4km or 5km a day, but run out of energy at that point. Has anyone got some good tips. I'm thinking I need some sort of runner-friendly diet.

how long have you been back running?

if it's only a short period this could have a bearing on the distance you can run .
Are you running everyday?
try cutting back to every other day and see how this goes!

a generally normal healthy diet should suffice unless you intend to run regular marathons
take it easy
