Why do runners wear gloves ?

I have wondered this for some time, but have never read any articles telling me why.

In cold weather, yes, wear gloves to keep your hands warm. But I have noticed runners wearing them on warm summer days in races.

I find that even in the winter when I wear gloves, after about 2 miles I have to take them off because my hands are overheating.

When it's bitter, in the winter, gloves are useful for the first couple of miles as you say but then, I agree, they have to come off.

Woolly hats anyone?

If you think about it you might work it out!
A pair of light gloves are excellent for wiping sweat away, nose blowing etc.
Also, some runners suffer from cold hands. Ingrid Kristiansen wore gloves all the time.
Google her for images.
