I've got my first half on 21st Sept (Anglesey).

Am feeling quite confident of being able to at least finish, despite absolutely bricking it about the whole first race and looking like a complete idiot not knowing what to do on the day. :'(

However, should I taper for a half and if so when should my last LSR be. Would I be OK doing one on the Saturday\Sunday before and then having an easy final week, or should I ideally do it before that and take this Sunday as my last LSR , with reduced mileage for the next weekend?

P.S. Anyone want to start a book on finishing time? At least it'll be a PB :p

Hi SR

Don't be scared, you are going to love your first race and just take everything in and don't worry about time too much.

Make sure you are there early and you will be able to find out everything you need to know then.

I would probably make my last long run between 8-10 miles the weekend before, although I am not sure what sort of mileage you have been doing, but make it easy, you want to save your legs for the race.

Midweek just do 2-3 shorter distances of 3 - 4 miles.

Definitely taper.

Good luck and can't wait to hear how you get on.
