Hello all

I'm a 37 yo, overweight Mum of one who is very new to running. I am in the 3rd week of my walking/running programme called the couch to 5k plan at the cool running website.

I'm hoping to increase my fitness and lose weight so that I can keep up with my 2 yr old son when he starts riding a bike and I have to fly after him!

I've really enjoyed the posts I've read here so far although some have been quite mind boggling for me, particularly those talking about cold Old Generals and using Brave Soldier to stop chafing!! ;)

Looking forward to learning lots and going far. :)

Welcome Tortoise

I am a fairly new runner too, everyone is really friendly on here, so you get lots of help and advice if you want.

And a bit of harmless mickey taking too!!

Hello Tortoise.
welcome to the forum. If you're three weeks into your programme, you're doing really well - keep it up come rain or shine! Two things are certain if do keep it up: you will get fitter and you will lose weight. Keep us up to date with your progress:)

Hi Tortoise

I, also am new here and I have received a very warm welcome. I have just returned to running so I am hoping for advice and inspiration (I was inspired enough to go running around East Park this morning in the snow!). Good luck with the programme:d

Have just done workout 1 of the week 4 couch to 5km training plan. I did find it very tough (but I completed it which I'm chuffed about)! The music helped tonight which is the first time I've tried that, and I'm hoping new trainers will also make things a bit easier but I'll have to wait for the weekend before I can get them.

So tonight I managed to do 5 min brisk walk followed by 2 lots of 3 min jog, 90 secs walk, 5 min jog, 2.5 min walk and loads of stretching.

My shins hurt but I'm not sure if it's the muscles around them rather than the bone. Stretching does help so I guess it's muscular. My head hurts now though and I don't fancy dinner. One more way to lose weight I spose. ;)

Welcome Tortoise.......(I`m sure you will soon have to change that name soon...:d )

Don`t have the music to loud. IMHO it is very important to be aware of whats going on around you for your own safety.

And keep check on your shins,if they start to get too sore it maybe an idea to go to a specialist running shop and check that you are wearing the correct shoes.

Well done on your progress, and good luck with the rest of the programme and beyond.

Dave.
