Hello, I have just stumbled across this forum after catching 'the bug'.

I have only just started to run and can only go about a mile and a half before the feeling of certain death overcomes me:embarrassed: there is something in me which makes me keep going out to try to get a bit further:d

I don't really know what else to say about me now, so hi all and see you on the boards.

Hi Taurus,

I've just finished reading a brilliant book which is full of inspirational anecdotes. The book is by Dean Karnazes and called Ultramarathon Man. One phrase that I always remind myself of when it's getting tough is 'baby steps'. One tiny step at a time, one after the other. The feeling of doom often dissipates soon after.

I don't normally read much but I couldn't put this one down.

I've read about Dean Karnazes somewhere before. Is he the guy who takes his mobile and credit card out when he's running, so that he can phone ahead and order pizza?
I didn't know he had a book out. Where did you get your copy from?

Hi Taurus

Welcome to RF

Good for you getting out there, like the others have said slow it down abit.

Have you got the right trainers? If not find yourself a running specialist shop and have an analysis done where they put you on a treadmill and they can tell what type of trainer will be best for you and then show you that type of trainer in all the different brands, I hope that made sence?

Haha. Reminds me of the first time I attempted 10k non-stop. I took a fiver with me and promised myself that if I could do it I'd treat myself to a kebab.

Welcome Taurus. Are you a taurean?

Thanks for all the welcomes.

If I slow down anymore I'll come to a complete stop!!!! Its because I'm so unfit that its like that. The more I go out the easier it is becoming:d I'm sure it'll get worse again when I increase the distance.

We have a running shop not too far away so I'll go down there and give the trainner thing a go.

Yes I'm taurean, hence the username:d I couldn't think of anything else.

Not only that, but once he's taken delivery of it en route, he eats it while running!

Anyway, here's the link
