hello to all out there, been browsing this site and found it pretty good with advice.

i have just started to run +- 3 months back but fell sick in between and had to stop for a few weeks. i started on a walk run routine as i had not been active for many years.

i made the mistake of using the trainers that i already had and they were a pig to break in. i had no injuries until i began to run 12 min and walking for 1 min x3. [3 times a week]

all went well but the next day my left knee was killing me. i rested it and ran a week later but it still hurts like hell and now my lower back is hurting aswell. i have since been to a running shop and have lovely new shoes. the shoes were for extra cushioning as well.

i have had trouble with my back before and it is an old injury from playing rugby 20 years back. i have been to chiropractor 3 years back.

just wondering if i must go back to the same chiropractor or if i should go and see a sports physio but being new to all this i have no idea how to choose which 1 to go to as i dont know of anyone to ask for recommendations and i live in thurrock south east where there doesnt seem to be any that i can find that deal with sports injury

please help as i really enjoying running and dont want to give it up

Did you like your chiropractor? I see a chiropractor and I've also seen a physio - your chiro should be able to check out your knee as well especially as the two might be linked.

Of course others might offer different advice so the decision at the end of the day will have to be yours but at least it will be balanced

thanks for the reply. what is the difference between the 2. i know that a chiropractor can manipulate your body back into position but what does the physio do. can he also manipulate the body as well as far as the back goes if it is out of alignment

Some physios do manipulation as well its best to check with the individual physio. They also advise on muscle imbalances and can give you exercises to strengthen weak areas. Chiropractors principally concerned with muscoskeletal system principally the back but also treat conditions such as tennis elbow, whiplash etc. If there is some instability in the pelvis or lower back etc this can be linked to pronation, which can place a torque on your knee etc.

Does the chiropractor you've seen in the past specialise in the treatment of sports injuries? There might be a sports injury clinic near you, which has a number of specialists e.g.physio/therapist, podiatrist, chiropractor etc. That way if you need to see more than one specialist it can all be managed by one clinic??

hi went to the specialist today[foot specialist].

there is so many problems with my feet that it could be the source of my backache as well. also this is causing my hamstrings to be tight as hell. so i have being given some exercises to loosen them up and i have to go on saturday and get inserts for my trainers to help sort the problem out.

i really hope that it all gets sorted. i am so eager to go for a run i can't wait. :d
