i made the jump last year from standard half and full marathons (and the very occasional hill run) to trying out a multi-staged desert ultra. I opted for the sandbaggers gobi challenge in mongolia and am now hooked! it was a small and very personal race of brits and mongolians and to me was what running is all about - personal challenge, great people pulling together, zero hype and endless camaraderie. i intend to keep up the road running for training purposes but am now looking for off road events in the UK (possibly ultra distance). I've heard the mob is a good race but i'm also wondering if there are any others (maybe over a weekend for starters).

any suggestions would be great
