Thanks I've been to see a sports therapist in a local clinic - she says she's never seen someone with so many problems all at once???? There is also a podiatrist as part of the same clinic but I've also recently changed shoes but haven't been out running in them yet. I protonate slightly on my right foot and my left leg maybe shorter than my right.
You need to se your sports therapist and in the meantime get some good carbon fibre orthotics get your podiatrist to do a proper assessment then he or she will take an accurate cast of your feet. if you have a leg lenghth difference this will hinder your running until you get the leg length and the foot plant sorted. Your sports therapist will prepare your boby with a range of massage & stretching methods:d
I would use the term massage loosely as it felt like we were wrestling and I was losing - still I didn't cry but I did yell. Got some stretches to do and I'm going back Friday to assess my progres and get some strenghtening exercises. I feel a bit bruised where she really applied pressure. Still if it helps the running
If you are anywhere near Ulverston cumbria the Take care injury clinic specialises in this type of problem Fridays is our Teaching Day when we usualy have one ore two students working at the clinic, supervised by myself & sessions last 1 hr 15 mins and because of the student teaching instead of £30 per session £20 is the rate www.Albmaleaf.co.uk for details
Thanks but I live at the opposite end of the country. Sports massage did offer some relief but pains started to come back when I ran for longer than 30 mins so I've also been to see a podiatrist. Been advised not to exercise for 3 weeks and to treat pains with cold therapy for15 mins twice a day and to take brufen 3 times a day for 10 days. Not quite sure where to continue with massage as well. Will need orthoses to correct my biomechanical problems - currently have wedges stuck to my insoles as a temporary measure and to get used to idea.
The answer is yes if you bruise easily it is possible with deep tissue massage but if you dont the therapist has massaged to harshly and damaged the soft tissue. rub the gel on i sent you and this should bring the bruising out and settle things down. the only time there should be bruising in my opinion is when scar tissue is broken down by deep friction massage techniques are used to break down scar tissue & adesions. After rubbing the gel in for a couple of days when the bruising has disapeared then massage into the areas deeper then get some ice packs. put the muscle into a sretch possition then hold the ice on for 3 - 5 mins all along the muscle lenghth. Then let the stretch off and rest the muscle for 5 mins then lightly massage with the gel:d
