I hurt my knee 6 days ago. It just started hurting, whilst walking. Since then it has gotten worse. The pain is in the left leg, just below the knee, on the right hand side.
It was getting unbearable, so today I went to A&E. After a quick consultation I was told it was most likely cartiledge damage, and there is nothing they can do.
Been told to wear a knee brace and take pain meds. No more running :(

Anyone else had this? The pain in excruciating,

I haven't had that particular problem. However I wouldn't pay any attention to what the doctor in A&E said as it sounds like they didn't have the time to look at you properly - which is understandable as they are not there for that sort of thing. You need to go to a proper sports physio to get a diagnosis. Obviously this will have to wait but you can still look for recommendations for a good one.
Cartilage injuries are generally caused by a sudden trauma and if you haven't had one then it probably isn't that. There's plenty of information online about knee pain and plenty of exercises you can do
