Hi, I’m new to this forum & looking for a bit of help please! I’ve recently taken up running again, currently doing around 2 miles 4 times a week - so nothing too strenuous! My problem is when I finish my run I start with a very intense cramping type pain in my lower right abdomen which then travels down into my groin. The pain is quite unbearable but only lasts around 10-15mins. I read somewhere that dehydration could be the problem so I always make sure I drink plenty of water before my run. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I don’t want to stop running but I’m worried that I’m making it worse by running! Any help / advice is greatly appreciated.TIA

I'd say it certainly is not dehydration. Firstly, you are running too short for this to be a problem, and second the pain is in the wrong place. There is a thing called a runner's hernia which is not actually a hernia but could be it. I suggest you google that and then let us know if that fits the desciption and what your results suggest you do.

Hi steve_c thanks for that. I have just googled ‘runner’s hernia’ and yes it does sound very much like that, although it does say pain usually occurs while running whereas my pain tends to start when I stop running. It suggests seeing a specialist for a diagnosis.

You’re welcome. I’m no expert but it sounds like a doc wouldn’t be a bad idea if conditions allow. Best to know if it doesn’t pass like a strain.
