I've had an on and off sharp pain running down my big toe when I run for around 2 years now, hasn't caused me much hassle apart from the pain so I've just cracked on with my running.
There is a loud clicking noise coming from the ball of the big toe. And when I look down the bottom of my foot (from the heel down to the toes) I see that the ball of my big toe sticks out a lot further than it does on my right foot. Which makes me practically only use the inside and big toe of my left foot when I run, and I think this is causing other problems due to compensating with the other leg etc.
I'm now close to starting military training and I would rather know the problem with my toe before I start.
A bit of a long shot I know but I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar and what it could be?
Also I don't really know what sort of specialist I would go to to get this seen to?
Any help appreciated, thankyou :)

I could be that you have always had a bunion, or maybe it is bursitis. I'll leave it to you to look into those as I don't have any personal knowledge on what to do about them, if anything.

I had a large bunion on my right big toe for many years that started to affect my running( knee and thigh pains), After seeing my GP I was referred to a consultant who recommended having it removed. He also told me that I had arthritis in the toe. I agreed and the operation was done within 4 weeks. I was on crutches for 6 weeks and then had to wait another 6 weeks before commencing running. The op was 100% successful and I am now running with a lot less discomfort. I suggest getting some professional advice.
