Swimming is the thing to go for apparently; best thing is it works on your whole body, and no impact.
Have to agree whole heartedly. There is so much you can do in the pool; different strokes, sets, legs and arms only sets, long distance, sprints. You can even run in the water. Little outlay required; swimwear (you prob have already), goggles and a pull bouy/kick board.

I find the rower great for a high intensity workout, though you can't get much lower impact than swimming!

If you use a combination of all resources available to you the I'm sure you won't go far wrong :) As with running, a mixture of high and low intensities would be a good way to start ;)
