Hi

I have just discovered this site and as I have registered to do the Great South Run in Portsmouth on October 22nd: I thought I may pick up some good tips. I started running some years ago for health reasons and at 61 I feel quite well. I am looking for tips on what to eat before running and how much training is needed. I regularly run 3,4,5, and 6 mile routes. My three sons are also taking part and although I do not expect to beat them I would like to fininsh within two hours.

You've got 4 weekends before race day so you've just got enough time to build up the mileage without overdoing it. Try to do 8m, 10m, 11m and 12m on the next 4 Sundays together with 3 other runs during the week one of which should be run at a good pace or up hills.
Best of luck.
