Hi.
I used to run half marathons in the late 1980s, my last one was the Great North Run in 1991 when I was 11 stones, I wore Reebok Royales.
After 16 years of doing sedentary jobs and no running, my weight has risen to 15 stone, I want to take up running again, I have cycled regularly in the past 2 years.
I need some advice please on the best shoes for my weight, I don't want to smash my knees with the wrong shoes.
I have a broad foot, a high instep and my running shoes used to wear on the inside of the soles.
Can anybody please recommend a suitable shoe.

Hi CR

Welcome to the forum.

The best advice anyone can give you for running shoes, is to go to a specialist shop and have a gait analysis done, this will help get the exact shoe for you.

Good luck

I agree with twinkle toes things have moved on dramatically in the running shoe department .

If you go to a specialist running shop they will analize your gait on a treadmill and then give you a selection of shoes from different manufacturers to try on .

This is important because it gives you the chance to "feel" what their like .

take it easy and good luck with your running

And welcome to the forum!!;)

Hi,
Thanks for the advice.
I was on business in Cumbria and happened to pass the New Balance factory shop, the lady inside was very knowledgeable and advised on varying degrees of shock absorbancy and shoes in 3 width fittings, I came away with a nice pair of wide N846, can't wait for the weekend to try them out.
