Hi. I’m fairly new to running but not too inexperienced, and recently I’ve been getting a stitch like pain right under my rib as soon as I start running.

I can’t work out what’s causing it. I’ve tried to capture all the variables - I’ve changed my breathing pattern, made sure my stomach is empty, that I’m hydrated, lowered my pace but it still persists. It flares up as soon as I start, and this includes during the warm up, and no matter how much I stretch it’s still there. The thing is it’s only when running, another exercise I do it’s fine, and it’s more so when my feet impact the ground. Any other time when non exercising it’s not there.

Any ideas what this could be? And how to prevent it.

It will pass as you practice your running and become more experienced. I haven't had stitch in many years. You can try running with your arm behind you head when you get stitch on the side it hurts, it used to go off that way for me
