hi guys,

Are sports drinks designed to replace water? And if so are the better than water? (Im talking about all these fancy lucozade drinks on the market)

In a nutshell, Water replaces water... Sports drinks replace water and energy (+electrolytes).

There was a thread recently discussing the cons of drinks like lucozade due to the additives etc in them, and suggestions for home made alternatives - If only I could remember what the thread was called! I'm sure it wouldn't take too much looking around to find though :)

For me, neither are necessary. The only time I take fluid on board is during a race and that is only because it's rammed down your throat (ie. all the advice dished out on forums such as this!) before hand.
