if i stop during the resting part of an interval session to sort my breathing out, but then carry on a still do the full 200m resting am i loosing the effectivness of the session?

If you stop to tie your shoelace during a marathon, have you not run the marathon?

I wouldn't have thought stopping would have any real effect on the session, unless you stopped for a fry up that is :)

ok cool.. i wasnt sure if the point was to be able to carry on at pace whilst your fatigued.. or just simply the speed part :)

Good question beasty! The alternative line of thought is to do your rests by time rather than distance but in answer to your question, whilst there may be some difference - I wouldn't imagine it to be enough to warrant worrying!
