nope.. but ive always wondered how/ why they choose to give them out... i just assumed its for mates of the organisers etc

I stayed to watch the winners presentation and some guy involved with the organisers started throwing running shirts over the heads of the assembled group of runners who'd stayed to watch. I caught a nice Salomen one. It was the right size for me too! I always wondered what spot prizes were too. Maybe you have to wait for the presentation to get one.

That is probably the key to it. It is to encourage people to stay for the prizegiving even though they know who has won. Otherwise you would have 6 or so people and the sponsors

I've only once seen spot prizes being given out, they were simply being handed to finishers at random intervals as they were in the finish funnel. Never recieved one though

I always thought they were given out randomly as people crossed the line...that's how SWMBO got one many moons ago.
