Hi everyone,

I am the race director of Tired Gorilla Racing, a company I set up after ten years of participating in long distance races, including 100 milers, Ironman, the World Sauna Championships (really) and the Mongol Derby.

Tired Gorilla's objective is to organise challenging, memorable, and enjoyable ultra distance events in the most evocative landscapes in Europe.

We seek landscapes that are of natural and cultural significance in which we can immerse runners in the local culture, both in the start and finish camps and the course itself.

As such, it is only natural that our inaugural races be held in Transylvania, Romania. They take place on 30th May 2015 and consist of an 80km trail ultra and 42km trail marathon. The courses are fantastic - really unusual: runners follow a pre-marked trail through ancient Saxon villages, virgin forest, a ruined castle, open pasture land, meadows and rural village pathways. This culminates in the infamous ascent of the Sighisoara citadel, a UNESCO world heritage site and the birth place of Vlad Dracul. This is a racing first as no other race has even featured the city!

WARNING: the difficult of this route should not be underestimated. Nor should the vibrancy of the local wildlife, which includes wolves and bears.

Date: 30th May 2015
Location: Transylvania, Romania

The marathon looks interesting - however I typically train for halfs. I have a half marathon next month, is 2 months lead time enough for the distance?
