Hello,

I love both, running and cycling... however, I am more of a mountainbiker than a road biker.

BUT, I would love to try out a duathlon, but I am a little scared that everyone has road bikes, and I would be the only one with a mountainbike. I guess there are many people in this forum that do Duathlons... could anyone help out and let me know, whether there are people taking part that have less "professional" bikes?

My other question would be... are there off-road duathlons?

Which Duathlons would you recommend for a beginner... I am based in Hampshire.

Thanks so much in advance!!
Jenny.

Hi Jenny, I've never done a duathlon but I'm certain you'll find plenty of amateurs/newcomers with mountain bikes so don't worry about that! Though I would mention that if you can get a cheap rusty old 2nd hand road bike, you'll end up being a lot quicker than even riding on a brand spanking new top spec mountain bike ;)

off-road duathlon? Can;t think of anything specifically, but I did an adventure race that was xc running, cycling and some kayaking too - great fun!

I know there are plenty of off-road tri's, eg X-Terra events, so would be surprised if there were not off road duathlons. It might be worth checking out the British Triathlon Federation website for a listing of events in the UK.

We're all running the 10k race for the forum social... but I believe the duathlon is on the same day at the same place (not sure on timing though)...

dbmax.co.uk would be the site to head to for details of the event, though I don't think they have results going back as far as 2005?

thanks,

i found the results using the link you posted.
i didn't know i could run 2 miles in 13.5 minutes so i'm happy with that except i now have a target to meet.
these were my splits but i do'nt know where the transition is added, ( i assume it's on the bike leg?)

I will be doing the Glentress off-road winter duathlon series, up in Scotland. They are great fun, but very tiring.

There will be a wide spread of athletes, with guys who specialise in running, those who specialise in cycling, and those who are good at both.
Its a great way of finding out what you are made of.

There is one up this way First Monster but it is a team event and only one of the cycle stages are off road.

Google will no doubt bring up a few.
I competed in this a couple of weeks ago (and managed to get my ugly mug on Sky Sports 3 as a result).

It was the best event I have ever taken part in. The one off road mountain bike section is 23k and a very good test of strength and stamina by all accounts (I didn't have to do that leg thank jaysus).

I'd highly recommend this if you're looking for a duathlon, although it isn't till this time next year.
