I am an ex competetive bodybuilder/powerlifter and currently going in the RAF as a PTI and wondered if there was any supplement out there that would help with my VO2 max/Stamina as I have only recently started doing alot of running. Previously I was mainly weight training and not doing much cardio at all - in fact nil! I use to be a smoker also so my lungs arent the best and could do with a little something to help that Oxygen travel.

Many Thanks

actually i thought that was quite witty for me.

no doubt there are some supplements which claim to help, whether any research backs up their claims too.. and whether its applicable to the average joe as opposed to elites is another matter.

I liked it so much I repeated it to my wife :d

But, the best bit was it would work. Although 3 times a day might be excessive do you think :p

David, do you still bodybuild?

Unfortunately the serious bodybuilding/powerlifting is on hold as i got to lower my weight to pass medical to the RAF. I am still doing some weight training and alot of bodyweight excersises i.e. press ups, sit ups, squats etc. I peaked at about 140kg bench, 180kg squats and 210kg deadlifts which was good for my age - 20. However know I have to lose some weight as they do not take into account whether your muscular etc its purely weight and BMI which sucks!

Ive heard about cordyceps which reflex do as Cordyceps CS-4 wondered what you thought? Ive also seen maximuscle viper but the way they word there advert with a lot "could" claims is just shit really!

Reflex cordyceps cs-4 (google it as i cant post urls)

I've had a quick read through on one of the links google threw up... it seems it can help heart and liver function, help erectile dysfunction... generally improve your health - but I'm not sure how successful it'd be in improving your VO2 Max... it mentioned some chinese olympic athletes but didn;t really explain how this stuff helped!

Could you PM me the link of the site you were looking at? I'll post it up for all to see and would be interested to have a look myself :)

The sites should have been sent to you Rich! What the attitude towards discussion on here about pro-hormones etc. I use to use muscle talk which had a specialist section on steroid use. Myself I have never used however I wanted some more info about EPO and how it is used and how popular it actually is amongt elite athletes. Jus for my information and interest really

Well obviously EPO is a banned substance in the sport... so the general view that the public would take is that it's generally not used in Elite athletes.

Sadly my knowledge of performance enhancing drugs is minimal so I can't possibly comment on what actually goes on, or even what the use of EPO's does physically!

If you manage to come across any information outside the forum, please report back with it - I'd love to have a read! :)

EDIT: in fact... I'll have a look into it myself tomorrow and report back with my findings ;)

Unfortunately Worlds Strongest Men, My Olympias are all classed as "Elite" athletes and there all on gear! I think more people in the olympics etc especially sprinters, cyclists use EPO than the media are aware of. Its the same as Human Growth Hormone is in bodybuilding both are naturally occuring in the body, EPO produced by the kidneys so it is very difficult for the authorities to be able to show elevated levels of it as they can in synthetic testosterone.

Wow... what a fascinating read!!!

I guess it's a bit like trying to police anything - there's always going to be a delay between a new crime/method of doing something being established and it then being recognised and prevented... what can you do eh?
