Hello all.
I'm just about to begin Hal Higdon's intermediate 5k plan to build up to my next race, as I need to structure my training properly to improve, I reckon.
I was just wondering about how he defines a temp run. When the plan calls for, say, a 40 min tempo run, does this include the ten minutes warming up and cooling down at easy pace (thus making the actual tempo section of the run 20 minutes)? This would seem to fit with his earlier definition of a tempo run as "a continuous run with an easy beginning, a buildup in the middle to near 10-K race pace, then ease back and cruise to the finish. A typical tempo run would begin with 5-10 minutes easy running, continue with 10-15 faster running, and finish with 5-10 minutes cooling down", but I'd like to make sure before I begin the plan.
Any help gratefully received.
